breaking news involving b.a.r.t. we've been following since 4:30 this morning. three b.a.r.t. stations shut down after a deadly accident on the tracks. >> abc 7 news reporter amy holyfield is back from the south hayward station with the latest. amy? >> reporter: still not open, kristen. passengers greeted by a closed gate and homemade signs saying no train service at the station. officials are saying don't even come leer to south hayward. go to bayfair. the station agent is getting a work jut this morning. we've watched her the last t couple of hours running around the parking lot telling people before they even get out of their car to leave. don't even stay here. she's got to be the hardest station agent i've ever seen. this is happening because they are investigating a death on the tracks. a person hit by a train last night. there is no service this morning from fremont, union city and south hayward. commuters say this is so frustrating.

>> going to about really bad commute for me now. i have to go all the way to berkeley to work. so -- i've got to find arrangements, take a bus. something to get to work. >> reporter: what's your reaction to that? >> horrible. could lose my job. >> reporter: i just asked a b.a.r.t. spokesman why is their investigation taking this long? he said the evidence stretches about 300 yards on both sides of the tracks and it's dark out there. so they're waiting for sunrise to make sure they got all of their evidence, so they have no idea when they'll be opening back up. they'll have a better sense after sunrise, which they say is about 6:30 this morning. there's no bus bridge out of here. they don't have the personnel to man way. they're saying the a.c. run parallel. tracks 99 and another one might be helpful. best advice, go straight to the bayfair station, if you can get

not wet. it's a little damp, but not really wet. there's mist in the air, maybe a sprinkle or two. live doppler 7. you can see the cloud cover over top of us. the radar returns, just outside of the north bay, and then to the central valley. as far as your day planner, we start with the bay and talk about gray conditions, 56. overcast by noon at 63. light rain in the north bay and mid-60s at 4:00. all of us should have rain around the bay by 7:00. temperatures falling into the upper 50s. inland, sprinkles, and mid to upper 60s with rain in the north bay becoming steady by 4:00. light rain for all by 7:00 and 61. drizzle and fog along the coast this morning. a little drizzle at noon. you get your chance of light rain starting around 4:00 in the north bay spreading southward by 7:00, dropping temperatures back into the upper 50s. so the evening commute, probably wet for most of us. here's kristen and eric with more news. >> mike, thank you. a key player in one of the world's biggest complexes in the

silicon valley this morning, israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu is meeting with governor brown and high-tech leaders. abc 7 news recorder matt keller is live in mountain view with a preview. matt? >> reporter: this is an historic morning here at the computer history museum in mountain view. the israeli prime minister and jerry brown are schedulinged to meet here later this morning. now, benjamin netanyahu and governor brown are planning on signing an historic agreement promoting trade, research and economic development. a promise that israel might have water conservation advice for california as well. the israeli prime minister was in los angeles yesterday for the premiere of a television documentary that features netanyahu giving a tour of his nation. >> shows you sides of israel that need to be shown to the people of the world, and as such, it's not only a vehicle to, to make tourism, increase tourism, it's also to dispel the various thoughts about the state

of israel and to show the real face of the jewish state. >> reporter: before netanyahu arrived in california yesterday, he was at the white house on monday, where president obama challenged the israeli leader to salvage a middle east peace plan with palestinians. today the prime minister is planning on stopping at apple in cupertino and also meeting with the whatsapp co-founder, after the computer history museum. the front parking lot taped off. security is tight. the meeting will start at 10:30 this morning. reporting live in mountain view, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> thanks. 6:05 now. tests on the eastern span of the bay bridge show a system designed to keep rainwater from seeping into guard rails is failing and could put the bridge at risk of corrosion. the "chronicle" report results of more than the 900 leaks identified by recent storms. made its way through safety barriers and into the underlying steel structure and caltrans found holes cut for electrical

conduit as well. the list will not be made public until next week. trying to ease the tense situation between russia and ukraine. secretary of state john kerry and ukraine's foreign minister are meeting in paris while nato leaders meet in brussels. more on this ant tend tense dess the situation. >> reporter: exactly right, eric. high-level talks and diplomacy under way. the international community is getting together in an effort to try to de-escalate the situation. even vladimir putin is now saying, he's nots looking for a fight. the u.s. and other nations are still trying to diffuse the standoff in ukraine. in paris, secretary of state john kerry met with the foreign ministers of ukraine and great britain before talks with russia. >> there are very clear legal obligations that are at risk in this, and we're going to talk about those here this morning. >> reporter: yesterday the

secretary blasted vladimir putin's invasion of crimea. >> it is not appropriate to invade a country and at the end of a barrel of a gun dictate what you are trying to achieve. >> reporter: in crimea, tensions remain high. with russian and ukrainian troops staring each other down. putin says he ordered troops into crimea to protect ethnic russian. a claim many believe is false. the russian leader may be trying to turn the temperature down, sending representatives to brussels today to meet with nato officials about the crisis, but putin called the new ukranian government illegitimate and is reserving the right to use force ignoring the u.s.' warning. >> over the course of obama's six years in office, though, i think vladimir putin has come to see barack obama as very weak. >> reporter: amid all of this tension, russia made another bold statement. going ahead with the planned test launch of the intercontinental ballistic missile, like this one.

he'll remain in russia where he received temporary asylum after leaking details of the government spy program. it's more than three moss to secure snowden's participation. if you were expecting mail from southern california, listen up. nearly 120,000 letters and bills went up in flames in a big rig fire. the mail truck was heading from a post office in santa ana to the ontario airport when it crashed yesterday, and this was the scene on the 57 freeway. according to the postal service, the letters originated in orange county and the san gabriel valley. officials say anybody with letters that may have burned should check with the intended recipients over the next couple of days. new video showing an art gallery owner chasing a thief hoo tried to get away with a pricey painting. a surveillance camera captured the scene. right behind him, gallery owner leonard who discovered the theft at the back of his gallery and describes what happens next. >> he runs.

so i grab the painting and chase him. i'm not going to leave a $10,000 painteding on the street. i chase him. he runs and jumps in a cab. i run up to the cab and pull the cab door open and i -- you know, i'm yelling at the cab driver. call 911. you can't take this guy anywhere! >> the $10,000 painting is now back in leonard's gallery and the suspect is in police cust y custody. two other thiefs managed to get away with two paintings, each worth about $8,000. the bush family political dynasty is tocontinuing in texa. george p. bush won the republican nomination for texas land commissioner last night. the 37-year-old son of former florida governor jeb bush. the nephew of former president george bush and grandson's former president h.w. bush. the land commissioner position is often seen as a stepping-stone to higher office in texas. bush will face the 345ir mayor paso in the next general

foster city. mike has a look at your forecast for today. >> pretty quiet up here on the roof this morning. not much traffic on the embarcadero. seeing a lot more joggers than the other morning when we had rain. seeing the lights on the bay bridge. what the conditions are doing to our clouds, thickest around half moon bay. and it's starting to spill across the peninsula in san francisco. so we'll keep an eye on that sfo for you. this is the way it looks from the to you perp you can see low clouds trying to form in the mid and upper level clouds from the atmospheric river sitting over top of us. a shame it's sitting up there. a lot of moisture but nothing right now to really wring out that moisture. except for a weak front that's going to move into the north bay this afternoon, and over the rest of our neighborhoods during the evening hours. warmer once it passes friday into saturday and nor chance of rain sunday. temperatures today, very mild. low to mid-60s in the north bay.

nnz "abc 7 news" starts right now with live, breaking news. good morning. 6:29. continuing to follow breaking b.a.r.t. news. service at three stations shut down after a train hit and killed someone last night. these are live pictures from sky 7 hd. >> showing what appear to be b.a.r.t. inspectors checking out the tracks, making sure the tracks are fine and looking for

more evidence to make sure they haven't missed anything in the wake of someone being hit and being killed on the tracks late last night. >> it happened at 11:30, and service is still down at 6:30, and may be down for another hour. let's check in now with abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield at the south hayward station for an update. >> reporter: eric, this is the moment they have been waiting for. sunrise. so they could get out there on the tracks and see if there was any evidence that he couldn't find last night in the dark. so that's why we're still closed, and could be for another hour, but this is when we should be gets information, now that they're out there on the tracks. look behind me. we are still seeing a closed gate here at the south hayward station with a sign saying, no train service at this station. they are hoping to be open around 7:30, that is an estimate at this time. meantime, the station agent here at south hayward has been running from car to car, telling people before they park, or before they get dropped off, to

go somewhere else. no trains running here. this shutdown is because of what happened last night. a train hit and kill add person who was on the tracks. so they have shut down the south hayward, fremont and union city stations, and passengers this morning are having to adjust. >> it's a huge delay in my morning. now i have to go to a different b.a.r.t. station, hopefully catch a train and try to make it to work on time. it's a huge delay for me, but -- it's okay. i'll make it through. >> reporter: a spokesman tells me their evidence stretches about 300 yards on both sides of the tracks. it was dark out there last night and overnight, so they were waiting for sunrise to make sure they got all of their evidence. that's why it's taken so long, and why they're estimating that it will take them another hour to double check, make sure they got it all and open up at 7:30. they do not have bus bridges out of here. they just didn't have enough personnel to man that, but they say a.c. transit lines run parallel to their tracks.

so the 99 and the 801 could help you get to where you're going. if you can't, go straight to bayfair if headed for san francisco. that's the station you want to start from. reporting live in hayward, amy hollyfield, "abc 7 news." >> amy thanks. and other alternatives as well. as well as the freeway. sue? >> right now getting reports that traffic is much heavier on 880 than usual. live shot of sky 7 hd, a worker on the tracks looking for something there. and apparently we're looking at about another hour before we can get this station open. they're asking that folks go straight, directly to the bayfair station and, of course, parking is limited at all of these b.a.r.t. stations. so, please, give yourself extra time. 880 is, i just checked the drive times between fremont and newark, and it is a good 35-minute drive and solid as you make your way northbound on 880 through the oakland area. we're also experiencing some

muni delays in san francisco. buses and trains, with several of the routes with very slow-moving subways between embarcadero to montgomery and also some of the bus line, too. check ahead for muni if you're heading out this morning as well. mike is up on the roof with your forecast. looking at rain? >> rain moving in during the afternoon in the north bay. for the rest of us durings evening commute. good morning. humid and moist out here. you see haze hanging in the air. that's the moisture that eventually will translate into some rain. live doppler 7. you see the best radar turning up between cloverdale and yukai and heading towards 50 along south lake tahoe. as far as the forecast, break it down for you. the next 12 hours. you can see that the rain is moving pretty much west to east and will stay north of us until we get to the afternoon hours. that's when they'll start to hit the north bay. mainly cloudy through 7:00 with mid-50s in most neighborhoods. we'll be near 60 with barely any sunshine today at noon, and then you can see the rain start to

energy, cyber security health and buyo technology and education. he will meet with cupertino co-founder jan koum, just sold his company to facebook for billions last month. nip equipment that goes inside will have to go through a security sweep. there's also several areas of the front parking lot that are taped off right now. the meeting starts at 10:30 this morning. reporting live in mountain view, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> thank you. 6:35. back to the top story of the morning. the b.a.r.t. shutdown near the south hayward station. that's where a person was hit and killed by a b.a.r.t. train at 11:30 last night, but the tracks are still shut down at the south hayward station, and that also mean as shutdown at union city and fremont. here we see crews looking for more evidence on the tracks following that fatal incident, and we are told that once they complete this search, then the trains may start running again.

"may." at first we heard they would at sunrise which was officially about 1:30 ago. now hearing maybe another hour, 55 minutes, 7:30. meantime, people are sent to the bayfair station or on to the freeways which are a bit more crowded this morning, as we're hearing from sue hall, and as we pan the camera here on the "abc 7 hd" nothing moving. plans to build a controversial high-tech surveillance center. approved overnight. the vote was initially died but mayor jean kwan broke the tie with her yes vote. funded by homeland security and consolidate the city's existing cameras and mapping systeming under one roof. opponents are concerned they will be used for warrantless surveillance on the public. happening today, the family of a patient who disappeared and was later found dead at san francisco general hospital will hold a news conference to
